My Maesil-Ju (Korean Plum Wine) Experiment

Korea has it's varieties of alcohol (beer, soju, maekoli), but it wasn't until last month that I had the itch to make some of my own.  After a birthday lunch with my family, my Aunt offered up some of her homemade maesil-ju as apart of the celebration.  I'm usually not a big fan of liquors but this was delicious and became even more appealing when she explained just how easy it is to make.

Green plum season was over about a month ago, so I was a little late to the party and had to walk around Suji for about an hour before finding some.  Luckily I found a street vendor right next to school who had a case left so I bought what i needed and anxiously headed home.

After washing, drying and de-steming the plums, all that's next is to add them to a 5liter glass jug with some brown sugar, soju and a little bit of corn syrup.  After 2-3 months, I should have a bunch of Amaretto type Korean liquor to enjoy. Hopefully it all works out because I kind of mixed and matched a few different recipes...but it's worth it to try right?!

I'm looking forward to posting a picture of the final product this fall!
